Eye Examinations
Even if you feel you have no problems with your vision, it’s important to have regular sight tests to check the health of your eyes. Routine examinations can pick up far more than just poor vision – an eye test can identify ocular issues before symptoms begin, and in some cases pick up signs of other health problems. 45 minute appointments with the Optician ensure that we understand your full ocular history and visual needs.
Private eye tests are charged at £45. To check if you are eligible for an NHS sight test, scroll down to the bottom of the page. An OCT scan is an additional £35, or the Optomap® is an additional £25, however if you opt for both optional checks then the package cost is £50, saving £10.
Cataract Referrals and Follow-Ups
Cataracts occur when the lens inside your eye becomes more cloudy, and can normally be rectified with a straightforward procedure. Once a cataract is affecting your vision to a certain degree, an optician can refer you for this procedure either privately or through the NHS. After the cataract operation, in most cases you will be referred back to us for the follow-up appointment, which checks the health of the eye and supplies your new prescription.
Child Screening Further Assessment
Children’s vision screening happens soon after beginning school, and checks for indications of reduced vision in both or either eyes. In the case that a child is referred for further assessment, additional tests can be carried out by a community optician during a special appointment. If your child has been referred from their routine screening, please get in touch via telephone, email, or by popping in to see us.
Two Clinical Rooms
We have two clinical testing rooms to allow us to keep our appointment waiting times short and ensure we can deal with emergencies while maintaining our exceptionally high standards.
Urgent Eyecare Service
If you require an urgent appointment for sudden onset eye problems such as flashes, floaters, vision loss, or minor eye injuries, please call us to see if we have any last minute availability. If we are unable to see you, click here to see a list of other local participating practices you can contact.
Equipment

Fundus Photography
The fundus camera is a low-level microscopic camera which takes images of the interior surface of the eye, including the retina, retinal vasculature, optic disc, macula, and posterior pole (i.e. the fundus). This is instrumental in detecting damage caused by conditions such as diabetes. The earlier this damage is caught, the easier it will be to manage and prevent it from worsening.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
An OCT scan is similar to a MRI or CAT scan specifically designed as a diagnostic tool for the eye. It allows the optician to observe and measure the layers of the retina (the back of the eye) by recreating a 3-dimensional image, and is invaluable in the identification of eye conditions such as AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration), Glaucoma, and Diabetic Macular Oedema.

Optomap®
The Optomap® is an ultra-wide digital retinal imaging device which captures more than 80% of your retina in one image, allowing even earlier detection of many eye conditions before appearing in the fundus view, including early stage AMD, glaucoma, and retinal detachments and holes, as well as health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, auto-immune disorders, heart disease, and some cancers.

Phoroptor
The Phoropter is an auto-refractor which provides the Opticians with an additional tool for checking your prescription, used alongside manual refractive practices.

Visual Fields Analyser
The visual fields analyser measures peripheral vision by presenting small lights and tracking which ones are, or are not, seen. The results of a patients visual field screening can be an invaluable diagnostic tool for picking up a huge range conditions. We also now have a Virtual Reality headset to carry out visual fields tests, allowing those with postural or mobility issues to complete it in relative comfort.

I-Care Tonometer
The I-Care tonometer measures the intraocular pressure of the eye, without the need for a puff of air and effective in any position, sitting or standing.
